A repeated scene that is happened every night as this is a busy route to Macau and the nearby islands. Capturing the light trails at night is not harder than shooting a flower or a building during the daytime. In my humble experience are ...
1. Check the highlight and estimate the time of exposure for the still surrounding.
2. Study the moving subject and their speed to calculate the time they will travel inside your composition to see whether u have enough time to get the correct exposure . In this case I had started the shlutter 1 minus before the ship will entered into my frame and had stayed in my composition for nearly 70 seconds.
There were two boats ; One is a jet to Macau and the other is a slow fishing boat.
The best result is the light will left your frame just before you had finished the exposure.
I love shooting at night for which I am alone out in the dark and no one there to interfere with my thinking. Mosquitoes are my best friend !
Just to share information and shooting fun, nothing special.
