Today was inevitable. A year gone without my friend- the gentleman farmer and wise old Senior Chief who mentored me and really forged me into the man I am today.
In the scheme of things, a year can be a lifetime or a shake of the lambs tail. For me and I'd guess his bride along with so many others it's been both. I can honestly say there is not a single day that goes by without a thought of Tim. You meet some people in life that ultimately make such a profound impact on you that life without them seems unimaginable. It hurts and it is empty but life carries on. Funny but thats what he said every time I saw him. Every. Single Time... Carry on!
Through the emptiness there is remembering conversations, laughs and advice given. I told him that last time we had together that I'd always remember him and one year later as promised I was there; bottle in hand with two shot glasses. Silence filled the dark night and at first it was spooky, all alone in the Berlin Heights cemetery. Soon it was replaced by my feet crunching dried up leaves around the grave of my buddy while thinking about the past. No ghosts- just memories as I sipped on some Kentucky goodness. One year later- you are in my thoughts every day. One year later- I am missing our conversations.
Rest easy buddy as we are all just trying to carry on without you!
