Khat is a big business in Ethiopia. The market is total chaos as you make your way through the aisles of people preparing the bundles for shipment to other countries. A very popular legal drug grown all over, khat is a major agricultural crop. An addictive drug, people are seen sitting around chewing on it. Truck drivers use it to stay awake. Then they have to drink alcohol in order to sleep. The khat shops along the main street in Harar are crammed with bundles of it and it is scattered all over the floors and sidewalks. People seen chewing it on the street seem very happy and eager to share!
