Gros Morne Park is beautiful and has a couple of these freshwater "fjords", which were formed by glaciers but are now cut off from the sea (by a mile or two). The water flowing into them gradually replaced the salt water, and is so nutrient-poor that these "ponds" (~10 miles long) are considered "ultra-oligotrophic" lakes.
