A Western Airlines B720B and DC10-10 sitting on the end of Concourse C at MIA. It was the only time I saw two WA aircraft at MIA at the same time and could have been right after the DC-10's were cleared to fly again after being grounded in 1979. Western had a DC-10 trapped at MIA during the grounding period. Western obtained the daily LAX-MIA route from the CAB prior to deregulation in 1978, competing with National Airlines on the southern transcontinental route. National had several flights daily, non-stop and one-stop in Houston and the bulk of the business. Western did poorly on the route and obtained CAB permission to add Nassau to the trip in an effort to boost traffic. The aircraft in the photo are parked on the end of Concourse C (formerly Concourse 6) which was leased by Eastern Airlines. The concourse had 10 narrow-body gates (stair truck used for the DC-10) and the airport didn't gain control of it until after Eastern died in 1991.
