We had a very fun and interesting hike today in the Fiery Furnace of Arches National Park. You have to pull a permit and the permits are issued on a very stingy basis. So, we hired on with a guide who had a fist full of permits and away we went for a long hike. As I have commented before, hiring a guide is often an excellent choice. This guy knew the area, the history, the geology and all that stuff so we had a non-stop commentary that was interesting and entertaining.

On the photography side, the challenge is getting white balance right in these narrow canyons. As you can see in today's photo of us standing before Walk Through Arch. The rock is red and the reflected light in the bottom of the canyon is heavily affected. Wish I had a grey card with me. I monkeyed with this photo for a while and this is the best I could do. It is good enough as a reminder of the hike, so what the heck.

haven't been there yet but I've heard
it's easy to get lost in the fins.
