Hoo Boy, we had a great time today. We rode a steam train from Durango to Silverton and back again. It was 3 1/2 hours each way. It is unbelievably cool to hear the chuffing of the engine and smell the smoke from the coal fired boiler. This particular railroad is narrow gauge: three feet. It was started in 1881 to service the mining operations in Silverton. They have six operating steam engines with four of them being the same model. All were built for the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. I have to admit that I was thinking how John would relish such a train ride. I believe there are quite a few operating steam trains in England. We actually rode on one in 2009, the South Devon Railway.

John-that would be a fun one to ride for a short time.
exzim-I never lived in a place where steam engines were
used. All diesel electrics.

Neat shot John, not sure the smoke is that much of an attraction, I remember I well from early days in the UK.
