Not long after sunrise we hit the trail for Snowbird Pass. We had a big day, 22 km/13.7 miles and 770 m/2526 ft ascent/descent and wanted plenty of time. Including all of our long breaks, it ended up taking us nearly nine hours - so good thing we got an early start.
We walked to the junction near the Berg Lake Ranger Station (between Rearguard and Robson Pass campgrounds) to pick up the trail to Snowbird Pass. We started by walking along the outlet stream across alluvial flats. We came across this sign that marking the toe of the glacier in 1911.
