--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

September 30, 2015

First things first.
I need to express my strongest apologies and regret for a posting on the pbase site.
Not sure how or why but I posted the name of May Yabui Yoshioka as deceased in
Gone But Not Forgotten section.
I was informed almost immediately after that my report of her demise was extremely
premature... I was told she lives on Oahu and is doing quite well, thank you.
Ah me, that embarrasment reminds me of our reunion at the Honolulu Country
Club in Salt Lake many years ago.
Towards the end of the banquet, we were gathered and holding hands in a circle.
Besides the usual alma mater and such there was a moment of silence for classmates
that we had recently lost.
The name of Clifford Ching was tossed in by someone who mentioned reading about it.
Turned out to be another Clifford Ching who received our moment of silence salute.
Lesson learned... eventually, check and double-check.

Extremely generous of you Sonny, for your invite to stay in your home.
From what we've read from Robert and Brenda, they had a great time.
Hope to see you and Terri in Las Vegas next month.

Thanks for the words Doug and Roy, so true.

Betty, sorry to hear you won't be attending the Las Vegas reunion next month.
Yes, that's true, in our early 70s now and there likely won't be many more reunions
ahead for some of us for whatever reasons.

Too bad on the dead end here on your query Tim.
The painting sounds intriguing.
Perhaps Roy Okano may find that description familiar.

Aloha,
Hal

Aloha Hal,
No, unfortunately that is not me... I wouldn't know the first thing about painting. :)
Mahalo to Tim for inquiring.

As far as an answer to your question about attending a reunion... I thought maybe
we could go to the Las Vegas reunion next month.
Unfortunately that is not going to be possible.
I need to attend one before it is too late and I can't do any traveling.
We are planning a trip back home next July... a family reunion on Kaua'i and some
time in Honolulu.
Perhaps there will be something going on then and I can go.
Mahalo for asking.

You mentioning Harriet went to Leilehua for her senior year, jogged my memory.
That is where the church connection is... she attended the Nazarene church in
Wahiawa and there was a connection through the youth group.

Aloha,
Betty

Hal,

May I impose on you to ask Betty (Violet Chung-Hoon) Townsend whether she ever painted?
I recently picked up a charming, elegant still life of a clear glass vase full of white flowers
with a silver flute next to the vase and the artist's signature is not very clear but it looks
like a V Chun and the remaining letters of the last name aren't clear enough to be read.

Thank you.

As I mentioned to Harriet in my reply to her, we unfortunately either don't know the
whereabouts of or have not been in contact with quite a few of our classmates.
Even more unfortunate and sad that we have also lost many of our classmates.
http://www.pbase.com/halinhi/khs60gbnf

Passed on a junior class photo of Pauline to Carl and great to see she'll be attending
another reunion.
Carl by the way, for those unaware, has been graciously volunteering his time and
resources to help produce the reunion name tags for many of the reunions.

Betty, didn't realize you had gone through elementary, intermediate and high school
with Harriet.
This would have been her first KHS '60 reunion... hopefully she can still drop by.
As I understand, she went to Leilehua H.S. for her senior year.
Still a classmate though as far as we all are concerned, much like you and so many
others who had gone on to other schools.
Which brings to mind a 'by the way'.... when can we expect to see you at our reunions ?

Great to see the unbelievable timing of good fortune for a classmate immediately after
such an unwanted misfortune.

Hi Hal:

Thank you for the invite to your upcoming reunion.
Really wanted to attend but have to take care of some health issues.
My husband Jim and myself may just be able to be on the outside by the bar if I am feeling
up to it that day.
It would be great to see you all, I have been able to see Elsie Tanaka, Carolyn Amoy and
Paul Texeira here.
There are some classmates that I have been curious about, Lorene Goo, my best friend,
Joyce Ashimine, Carol Jean Robello, May Yabui, James Pestana just to name a few.
Just out of curiousity, do you have a list of our classmates that have departed?
Here's wishing you the very best of everything with this reunion, life is indeed too short
and the best of health to everyone!!!

Aloha, Harriet

Hi Hal,

Nice to see Harriet Higa's name pop up.
First met her at Palolo Elementary then Kaimuki Intermediate and Kaimuki High.
I think there was a church connection too, don't remember for sure.
Have thought about her through the years...

Carol, actually the reunion committee found Harriet... or maybe she found us.
Regardless, great to have her aboard.
Hopefully she may find the opportunity to possibly drop by to say hello at the banquet.

Got it Pearl, my bad on the time noted on the email blog... it's a 5PM start time.

This past Tuesday, there was a get-together at the Pagoda Floating Restaurant set up by Gerri.
Quite a few showed up, including Pamela Machida all the way from E. Canada.
Photos of the get-together are on the pbase website:

Omg, can't believe you found Harriet Higa!

In the event she reads your posts, I want to say "Hi Harriet"!!!!
Caroline Andrade here, if I remember correctly we became friends at Palolo Elementary and
continued our friendship through intermediate and high school.
I always tried to time catching the bus that you were on so we could meet up.
Got to go check my old photos, I know I have ninth grade picnic photos with you, Brenda Ignacio,
Karen Bertram, Jimmy Pestana, Gary Gomes, John "Little Man" Gomes, Carolyn Amoy,
and Mel Cabang, among others.
Lots of fond memories!
Sending you lots of Aloha!

Too bad Harriet won't be able to join us Pearl, remember her well from our Intermediate
and High School days.

Had been trying to ID a classmate in a reunion group photo I posted on the pbase website
a few years ago.
Thanks to the gals who were seated next to her: Elsie, Ann, Charlene, and Karen for their
help in remembering something that happened way back in 1983.

Roy, Doug, how true !
Although, many of those who gossip are actually well-meaning people.
Still, good point: no mo' nuttin good for say, no say nuttin.

Good to hear ( see ? ) from you again Manny, it's been a while.
Yep, we did have a pretty good football team back then,
We'll be waiting to see that Olelo TV segment when it airs.

Yes, the name is correct.
I believe her married name is Arakaki.
She resided a few blocks from me in California in the late sixties.
Did not keep in touch with her after we moved from that area.

Thanks for providing a most informative blog for everyone.
I enjoy reading the latest about our classmates.

Aloha to all my classmates.
Seeing the two Cliffords brought back real good memorys from our football years.
I still remimber the back to back kickoff returns by Clifford Ching.
Too bad our QB wasn"t any good.
With our team, we would have been in the turkey game.
After our QB, Paul, was replaced by Steven by our dumb coach after the second game, I never caught another pass.
I was told years later by coachs that, player for player, we had the best.
Hope all are in good health.
Still working at St Francis schools.
Our daughter Leialoha is a Jr.
Will be 74 in Nov.
Every day is a gift.
Hope all of you will have many more gifts.
Every Sat. I am at the Moana Hotel with my Weapons.
On Sun. Olelo TV will be at my house filming my Weapons.
Good seeing the two Cliffords again.

Aloha, Manny
God how the days fly by.
