Category of H II regions

Sh2 -170 is an emission nebula visible in the constellation of Cassiopeia .

It locates in the north-western part of the constellation, about 5 degrees north of the star Caph ; the best time for your observation in the evening sky falls between the months of August and January and is greatly facilitated by observatories in the regions of the ' northern hemisphere Earth, where it occurs circumpolar to the warm temperate regions.

Sh2-170 is an H II region located in the Perseus Arm of about 2,300 parsecs (7,500 light years ) away, [2] near the edge of a large the super- originated by the combined action of stellar wind of ' stellar association Cassiopeia OB5 . [4] The head of the ionization of its gas is known by the initials BD + 63 2093; it is a star of the main sequence with spectral class O9V, part of the small and young open cluster Stock 18. The edges of the ionized region are mostly hazy, indicative of a lower density at the periphery, except for the south-east side; the ionizing star is placed at the center, on the edge of a small molecular cloud isolated. It is believed that 40% of the mass of the complex is made up of neutral hydrogen monoatomic ( HI ), located beyond the ionisation front. [5] The source of infrared radiation IRAS 00001 + 6417, [6] observable in the direction of the nebula , corresponds to a molecular cloud with emissions CO probably located at a distance greater, around 4600 parsecs, [7] although the Catalog Avedisova specifying him as tied to Sh2-170.
