NICOWA members face a dilemma because commercially available feed is produced far outside Nigeria and thus bears transport as well as production costs and may be old and nutritionally not as good. Low-cost but cheaply built extruders used to produce floating feed can be purchased from China that address small scale users, but they break easily. American and European extruders are more reliable, much more expensive and generally address large quantities of feed production. This farmer uses a couple of locally fabricated machines to approach the extrusion principles and successfully create floating feed.
