“Bean” cars were made
in England between 1919 and 1929. There were around
4000 “Type 14” vehicles produced between 1924 & 1928,
and the one below, which is nicknamed “The Sundowner”,
was driven by Francis Birtles from Darwin to Melbourne, in
1926, to establish a new record, of 8 days and 13 hours, for
crossing Australia (from North to South), in a motor vehicle.
