We toured the California State Capitol today. That was the 29th we have visited. Like many other state capitols, it was modified to add offices resulting in the destruction of many of the architectural features. Like other capitols, they decided to put it back the way it was. That added up to many millions of dollars and unfortunately, many of the items had disappeared because they were sold off. So, tons of bucks were spent rebuilding them. One case in point was the wooden railings and corners on the stairways. They were carved from scratch at an enormous cost. Remember, this is California where no expense is too great because all you have to do is raise taxes.

Today's photo is the official portrait of Governor Gerry "Moonbeam" Brown from his first term. You will note that it looks like something that was done as an art project by the second grade at Sequoia Elementary School. Every single other portrait of former governors are the usual formal portraits. That just goes to show you something, but I can't put my finger on it. It might have something to do with insanity or stupidity or something like that. I am sure that some portion of the citizens of California think it is cool.

Maybe the money saved from not paying a famous portrait artist was used to rebuild the wooden railings.
