I recently purchased a Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 lens specifically for use in photographing the night skies. It is relatively inexpensive and has very good reviews. On my first night shooting from a dark sky (for Southern California) in the nearby mountains at 5000', I'm now a believer in this lens. I shot this image mounted on an iOptron SkyTracker with a 3 minute exposure.
