Albert Van Nesse Green 1887-1971
Painter, illustrator, and etcher, Albert Van Nesse Greene was born in Jamaica, New York in 1887. For fifty years, he lived in Chester Springs, PA, where he painted the beautiful Pennsylvania countryside in an impressionistic style.
Greene studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts under Daniel Garber. He also studied at the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, D.C.; the Art Student’s League in New York; and at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere in Paris.
He exhibited throughout the United States and France, and in 1919, was awarded the Second Landscape Prize from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts Annual Exhibition.
Greene was a member of the Fellowship of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Philadelphia Art Alliance, the American Art Association of Paris, the Society of Independent Artists, the Salons of America, and the Philadelphia Sketch Club.
His paintings are in the permanent collections of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
The artist died in 1971.
