These skimmers can be differentiated by the Common Whitetail by the two dark spots next to the body and the white spots on the outside. They are common in various spots along the Ottawa and Rideau Rivers. Newly emerged Widow Skimmers have a yellow abdomen with black stripes and may not have the white markings on the wings.
