Esther's husband Jim was in the U. S. Army Air Forces during World War II and he was transferred to Lowry Field for technical training after basic training at Miami Beach, Florida where he and Esther married. Esther followed him out to Lowry Field, rented a room in adjacent Aurora and taught elementary school in Denver while Jim was stationed there. Jim was then transferred to Greenville Army Air Base, South Carolina (later named Donaldson Air Force Base and then renamed to its current name of Donaldson Center Airport) to work on the Norden bombsights that were used on bombers during World War II and later. Esther taught elementary school at Welcome Elementary School on the southwest side of Greenville until Jim was transferred to Okinawa for the rest of the war. Esther was delighted to be back to the former Lowry Field and seeing the museum which had a lot of old photos for her to look at.
