lighthouse

Point Atkinson, West Vancouver

when Captain George Vancouver sailed into Burrard Inlet in 1792, he named this point of land for a friend...the first lighthouse here was built in 1874, and the current hexagonal concrete tower was erected in 1912

tighter shots were taken, yet thought the wider view better put the spot in context...the sliver of land in the distance is Vancouver, with Kitsilano to the left, and Point Grey to the right...three clicks 'previous' shows Point Atkinson in a larger context, from across the water

horrendous dust-on-the-sensor problems plagued the original photo...many thanks to stalwart pbase friend Walter Koenig for so expertly sweeping away the optical dust bunnies, which were visual blights
