We left Lake Myvatn headed for Hofsstadir. Along the way we stopped at yet another waterfall, Godafoss. There were tons of people arriving on buses because the falls is less than an hour from Akureyri and we found that two cruise ships had arrived in the harbor there. We stopped in the history museum which had an interesting collection of maps of Iceland and an exhibit about Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, the first female president of any democracy. We spent some time there then motored on to Siglufjordur for a visit to the Herring Era Museum. It was very interesting. I didn't realize how big a business herring fishing and packing was. This little town was a major producer for many years and then the herring moved on and they were out of business. So what do you do when a business fails? Make a museum, of course. We spent a couple hours there and really enjoyed it. After that it was off to Hofsstadir for our night's accommodations.
