Bowl and doily weaver (Frontinella communis), female

Reveler Conservation Area

A really beautiful little spider (about 3 to 4mm). The name, bowl and doily weaver, comes from the shape of the nests which suggest a bowl suspended over a doily. However, one author suggests that 'cup and saucer weaver' would work equally well for a name. The spider hangs upside down waiting for prey to land and then pulls them down through the bowl.
