We had an all day adventure into the central part of Iceland. The roads out there are dirt and gravel and it is illegal to be out there unless you have a 4X4 "Super Jeep." These vehicles tend to be pretty big-ass contraptions. We saw quite a few different ones and I had to think that John Cooper would certainly be interested in these "vehiculae."

We spent about 11 hours out there including a trek in the snow (5km) and a ride on a Snow-Cat. It was -2C (28F) and windy with blowing snow. For comparison's sake, it was 40C (104F) in Houston. Hey what's going on? Both locations are in the northern hemisphere during mid-summer. I probably should have paid more attention in geography class.

Today's photo is Ginny posing with our vehicle for this adventure. It was a Nissan. This was about the smallest vehicle we saw. I now fully understand the vehicle restrictions. I also understand why they have a well organized and equipped rescue organization. This would be a terrible place to have a breakdown.

exzim-good thinking about Florida.
John-the guide deflated the tires when we were on
gravel washboard roads. Smoothed the ride considerably.
He reinflated after we had successfully averted
the trolls and returned to paved roads.

You are softies in Houston, that's Toronto in February. Mind you, I'm in Florida then.

Just noticed, look out for Icelandic Trolls that mess about with your tyres so you breakdown on a glacier.

Oh yes, very interested indeed.
Excepting my first choice would be lots of practice in a warm place, like a desert, or Houston.
I love to see these photos in cold places, but my body does not function well at low temperatures.
Looking at Ginny standing there it seems like hypothermia is compulsory not optional.
If the photos stop suddenly,,,,,
