Oh I am a reformed character. I told you all last week that I was going to approach life differently and compartmentalise my problems, leaving them in the box when I’m not actually engaging with them, rather than letting them get me down.
So I am extremely proud of myself when I encountered a high level of bigotry recently about something hugely important in my life. The person claimed that it was basically “tough luck” that it can be very difficult to get a vegetarian meal in a restaurant because it was a lifestyle choice and therefore it was reasonable to expect that it would not be given respect or accommodation by people providing food.
It was a particularly interesting stand-point given that the lifestyle choices of the person involved frequently give that person cause to bemoan that they are discriminated against and vilified. It’s funny how one person’s lifestyle choice clearly bears more weight than another person’s lifestyle choice.
Did I bite the cherry of retort? No, I didn’t. Did I feel just a tiny bit smug? Yes, I did.
Oh and by the way – eat Kentish cherries now. They are wonderful, sweet and buying them protects our agriculture.
