Lola has never-ending patience despite being constantly “available” to play. There are many triggers to her springing into action because she thinks there is a chance that a ball will be thrown:
1. The closing of the laptop lid
2. Walking into the kitchen
3. Getting out of bed
4. Changing breathing patterns so she knows you are awake
5. Picking up the laundry basket
6. Opening the back door
7. Putting your feet on the ground
8. Going into the front lobby
9. Putting on certain types of shoe (Berkos, wellies, walking boots, steel toe-caps)
10. Picking up the Tupperware pot that holds breadcrumbs until there are enough to be worthwhile putting on the bird table…
There are literally dozens more triggers, many more subtle than the ones aforementioned, others less so.
This “I’m ready for action” pose was instigated by me picking up my camera hoping to capture her snoozing with her front paws over the doorstep of the patio doors. No chance.
I was hoping for a story about it being a dog’s life – her snoozing while I spend another couple of hours up a ladder scraping paint but rather than her feeling thankful for being a dog and therefore not being up said ladder, she’s just thinking “ooohhhh good, she’s finished that bloody selfish thing she’s been up to that doesn’t involve me and now there is the chance of a game.” “Come on then.” “No really, I’m ready now.” “Can’t you see I’m just here waiting.” “Oh Mum, you’re just too mean – how could you go out to work all day, then work for half the evening and leave me with only my Dad and the dogsitter to play with. How could you?”
