Getting to Iceland is no picnic. We had to make connections in Atlanta and New York. The flight from JFK to Keflavik is only 5 hours. Hard to sleep. We arrived on time in Iceland and were checked into the hotel by 10:45. Our plan to eliminate jet lag is to stay up and only go to bed at local bed time. So we immediately set out to see stuff in the city. We took a free walking tour which was very good. Then we wen to see the Maritime museum and tour the coast guard cutter Odinn. That boat was a big player in the infamous Cod Wars with Great Britain. We stopped for a hot dog at the most famous hot dog stand in Iceland, Baejarins Beztu Pylsur. The hot dogs were good. Our final touring stop was at the 871 +/-2 Settlement Exhibition. This was interesting because it was a recently discovered and excavated structure dating from 871 (more or less, hence the name), the earliest days of Icelandic settlement. After that we stopped at Subway for a salad then headed back to the hotel. Ginny worked on her scrapbook and I did the photos. This is going to be a very deep night's sleep.
Today's photo is one of Ginny's. It is a statue of Leif Erickson in front of the Hallgrimskirkje. It is just across the street from our hotel.
