Bumblebee -Shirley
by Shirley Haden

This bee has really worn and torn wings, which amazes me it still flies. The heat of summer brings out just what it needs at the moment, flowers!

Great shot. I know bumble bees hibernate in the winter months so I assume that their wings regenerate.

That is so true Endika, and we're concerned here too! We are loosing honey bees at a fast pace and if we lose the bees and butterflies we will loose much much more than them. The Monarch butterflies are in a desperate situation here. They have lost 90% of their numbers. Everyone I know is sure it is mainly because of pesticides for both bees and butterflies. In an attempt to save the Monarchs everyone is encouraged to plant milk weed in their gardens and pots on the patios. Without that plant they will no longer exist.

Great catch! A couple days ago I've readed an article explining how bumblebees are desapearing because they cannot adapt themselves to the changing conditions due to global warm. Really worrying, as they pollinize a big part of trees and other plants.
