Rose Chafers Mating

Macrodactylus subspinosus

Ottawa, Ontario

Rose Chafers are a type of scarab beetle that are related to June bugs. The adults emerge in
early summer. They are herbivores, and feed on a wide variety of flowers and leaves.

They live for up to 6 weeks, mating on food sources (as evidenced in the image, above).

Very sharp and detailed colours! If they only live 6 weeks they had better not waste any time!
