20-MAY-2015 Sally

I could not identify this Raptor.
My neighbor tells me it is a Hawk.
They have a caged bird and this fellow was looking for a feed!
He appeared to be very tame so could have escaped from an aviary.

Canon EOS Rebel T3i
1/1600s f/6.3 at 300.0mm full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

Kestrel, I think, but would bow to Terry and his book. Looks a little like out coopershawk around here. Nicely found and captured.

Excellent shot Sally.
You should send the shot to Illawarra Birders for an ID

remarkably sharp and great light - good luck with the ID'ing

Sometimes my typing drive me crazy....I was trying to ask the question "how big a bird is it?"
Terry_O22-Jun-2015 18:18
I should add, it does remind me of our American Kestrel, which it certainly isn't :). It is quite a small bird - say 30cm in length?

This is almost certainly a falcon, but which one, I can't identify - most likely because it may not be found in North America. Great shot! You are getting some great bird pics, Sally!
