June 16, 2015

I had the urge to go take pictures, but it was raining pretty hard. Didn't want to get my cameras wet. Then a light came on in the attic, "Hey, stupid, you just bought a Canon D30 waterproof camera, so what's the problem?" So I grabbed my rain gear and headed out. The water had been rising some in the Horse Pen Bayou at Bay Area Park. I pulled in, donned my poncho, grabbed the D30 and headed out. Well, there wasn't much action. The critters were hiding except for a waterlogged cat and a possum carrying its babies on its back. I tried to get a photo of the possum, but it was gone in a jiffy. So I headed to the board walk, and sure enough the water had risen enough to cover the deck. I didn't have my Wellies along, so I was stuck as far as venturing out was concerned.

One thing I learned is that taking photos in the rain requires frequent swipes of a finger over the lens. The droplets of water play havoc on the image. I also realized that I miss aperture and shutter priority, but that is a compromise in order to have a waterproof camera.

My kind of weather, but I wouldn't want as much rain as that.
