Band-rumped Storm Petrel

Gulf Stream pelagic

Photographing storm-petrels, at least non Wilson's Storm-Petrels was extremely frustrating. Photographing a small, dark bird against the ocean was extremely challenging for the Canon autofocus system, not helped any by the movement of the boat making it very hard to keep something remotely centered as well.

Most Band-rumped were saw were in obvious molt, and presumably Grant's. We saw a few fresh individuals like this that were likely Maderian though, possible future splits.
