These are the two ukes that were flung across the room in yesterday’s great CD disaster of 2015. This is the worst such event in our world since the great kitchen cupboard disaster of 2006, when two shelves inside a kitchen cabinet collapsed, smashing crockery indiscriminately. On that occasion, I ended up with a motley selection of plates and dishes, many of which were chipped but had to be used because they were all I had. I am still using them now!

It may well be that in 2025 I am writing about the great CD disaster and the fact that our jewel cases never got replaced. One of DMs young colleagues exclaimed this morning “haven’t you ever heard of an ipod”, to which our reply is yes, they are nasty things that give terrible quality sound that is probably worse in many respects than listening to music on a 1960s budget radio. We’ve come a long way with sound quality in the last 30 years only to shoot ourselves in the foot with MP3s. I just don’t get why anyone would want to listen to music that’s delivered to crap speakers from an ipod…but then I’m also baffled by pinger food so perhaps I’m just entering the sad old git world.
