We’ve had a disaster today. We opened the lounge door this morning to find the whole room in total chaos. The bookcases where we store our CDs had come away from their wall mounting and toppled over spilling CDs and other stuff all over the lounge floor. There were broken jewel cases everywhere, CDs that had broken free of their cases, two ukuleles on the far side of the room (one’s enamelled coating is chipped in a number of places but otherwise they are fine, thank goodness) and mayhem everywhere.

It must have gone with a huge bang yet neither of us or the dogs heard a thing, hence the morning surprise. We had to hurriedly clear the worst of the detritus away so that our new little friend Toby would be safe and then abandon it to go to work. Tonight, the first job has been to fix the cabinets back to the wall in advance of sorting out what’s broken and what can be saved.

The guitar in the photo escaped injury and the hat suffered a dent but that’s all. In front of the cabinet is the broken stem of a standard lamp which is going to have to undergo major surgery if it’s to live to be switched on another day hence the anglepoise being pressed into service.
