I think you did a great job of capturing a moment in time. Given the context about the storm generating flooding, the dark foreground does add foreboding. I, in fact, would probably leave the photo the way it is. If, however, your purpose is a dramatic photo of the Front Range, the lower part and the left-hand side should be cropped.
