Muriwai Gannet colony is one of the few such colonies
that exist on a mainland, and is the closest one to a
major city - only 22km from Auckland's downtown.
Gannets come here there in August to breed and the
young are born in November to December and in early March
the juveniles fly to Australia, much like NZ youth.
