So I did some test shooting with our new Powershot D30. Yesterday I mentioned that I was thinking -1/3 EV. What I didn't think about was that the blown pixels in the shots mentioned previously were outside the metering area. Hence you would not expect the camera to adjust the exposure for them. Just wandering around today I found that a good starting place was no exposure compensation. Anyway, this camera seems to behave like the G15 without aperture or shutter control. I can live with that. Right now I am pleased with the performance. The only didgy thing is that getting the half shutter is a little tricky. It takes a little more pressure to engage the focus and metering and it seems to take a little less to trip the shutter. No biggie. I just have to get accustomed to it and things will be fine. This camera is going to do us well.
One more thing. It has an onboard GPS. You can see what it delivered by clicking View Map. It is off by fifty feet or so. That is pretty good. I am not into geotagging.
Dave the problem started long before that. I have written to Pbase asking if they will ever fix it. They do not bother to reply, so I guess it has gone forever. I gave up Geotagging my photos a few years ago.
Clicking on "view map" displays a map of the world rather than a map showing the location of the photo. That problem started in November or December of 2014. I don't understand why PBase doesn't fix it. However, at the gallery level, the mapping function ("map") seems to work better.
