April 18, 2015

We had a hell of a storm last night. Lots of rain, wind and lightening. We kept an eye on the rain gauge, and during one 60 minute period we got over 2 inches of rain. The total for the night was 4.25 inches.

Well, about 9pm the power went out. We broke out flashlights, lit some candles and hit the sack early. What else is there to do? This morning when I got up, I wanted a cup of coffee. All I needed was some hot water. The side burner and the grill was definitely up to the task. So, hot coffee for me and hot tea for Ginny.

I was able to use my battery back ups to turn on the modem and router for a while. I wanted to see when our power might get restored. Center Point Energy, the owner of the power lines in this area, has a web site with a map showing all the power outages. I found the one closest to us and it said the power was expected to be restored at 8:48 this morning. Sure enough, right at that time (give or take a few minutes) the power came on.
