As I have mentioned before, Ginny has a garden which to the untutored mind looks like a "work in progress" because it is actually a work in progress. She loves to work in her garden and the result is quite an amazing collection of plants in a small space. As always she put in some tomatoes this year. Today she came back into the house because there were some green tomatoes on her plants. This year she put in patio tomatoes which I understand to be ones that don't get too big. In the past we have harvested some tomatoes, but being gone for most of the summer, the birds seem to enjoy them more than we do, for obvious reasons.
So why bother? Here is an article (from the Wall Street Journal, no less) explaining that cost certainly is not the incentive to grow your own tomatoes. http://www.wsj.com/articles/the-d-i-y-tomato-1427994334 But the thing you have to realize is that fun, enjoyment and satisfaction trump cost any day. Just ask Ginny.
I tried taking the photo for today in full auto mode with the G15. Because the autofocus seems to chase the closest thing, getting a good focus is difficult. Additionally I found that the AWB (automatic white balance) didn't seem to cut it. So it was back to aperture priority and the appropriate choice for white balance, and the result was much better. These settings are certainly in my comfort zone; however, faced with a choice of not getting a picture at all in some circumstances, fully automatic will do in a pinch. Now that I have tried it I am more likely to give it a try in the aforementioned circumstance.
