Lots of pupils were rehearsing for a folkloric performance.
A viewer informed me: "Many larger schools (of all levels) have one or more folk dance groups. Sometimes Turkish folk dance is even part of the regular teaching program. April and May are for these groups busy months. First comes ’23 Nisan’, the national ‘Children’s Day’, with speeches from various officials and appearances by children (under which folk dance). Then in May the national folk dance contests will take place: first per district, then the provincial finals, and (for the best/most lucky teams) the great national final. Therefore Februari and March are devoted to more intensive rehearsals than normal."
