We headed out this morning to Harvard Square to do some shopping at the Coop. We were seeking out Harvard shirts for Laura (a Harvard Business School graduate) and the grandchildren. Ginny consulted with Robert on the phone numerous times during this escapade. We headed back to our place for a little lunch then drove out to Concord. We visited the Concord museum which turned out to be pretty cool It was in Concord that Thoreau, Hawthorne Emerson and Louisa May Alcott crossed paths. I am not a literary person, but I guess that if you were such that this would be maybe a bucket list item.
For me the real gem in the museum was this lamp. It is supposed to be one of the two lamps hung from the North Church steeple to indicate the British were coming by sea, actually just crossing the Charles River. I find these types of things to be very interesting. Our western civilization history here in the United States is only 400 years old, unlike the Europeans who have a lot more history of western civilization. But we do have some interesting and cool stuff. In the last week or so we have seen the actual Royal Charters issued to the Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts colonies. That type of historical artifact in pretty neat in my (easily amused) mind.
In the evening we visited with friends Chip and Margaret whom we haven't seen in forty years. We were room mates for a while. We had a great visit.
