Larder beetle (Dermestes lardarius)

Found this beetle on the floor at home. It is unusual to find an insect in winter, but beetles in the genus Dermestes can be found near stored food. This one is usually associated with dry dog food. It is a non-native species and presumably came over in a shipment of food long ago, and spread across the country. According to Wikipedia: "They are used by taxidermists to clean skeletons."
