Life is Tuff

North Berwick

The rocks on the coast and islands around here are all volcanic in origin. Dating from the Carboniferous, around 350 million years ago.
Most are interbedded lavas and ash deposits, like this one. By the way, a tuff is a type of rock made from volcanic ash. Nice to put my degree to good use sometimes.
However, some other people like Uri Geller believe the islands have a mystical link to the Egyptian pyramids.
He liked the islands so much, he bought the one on the horizon http://site.uri-geller.com/why_i_bought_lamb_island

And last year I was freezing.

Geology is fun. I'm not good at it but I like it. Just as I like the strata detail on this outcrop.
I believe that the mystical connection with the pyramids was as follows.
Architect 1: "Where can we get the rock to build the pyramid?"
Architect 2:"There's some nice tuff rock at North Berwick."
Architect 1: "Where's that?"
Architect 2: "I'll show you".
{3 years and a very long boat trip later}
Architect 1: Stuff this, it's too cold. I'll just get it from the Giza quarries again."

That's an old rock. Was the island straight before Uri Geller bought it?

Didn't know about Uri Geller. Mustn't have bought an Edinburgh Evening News that day! ~V~

What a fascinating rock formation and interesting commentary. Excellent detail on the rock.

Nice history, Bill...the pity is it is only written...imagine if we had 350 million years ago in real time on film. I suppose Uri can bend Lamb Island into anything he wishes ;)
