HAYNES DESCRIPTION:
Although Citroen had been considering a car along the lines of the SM Coupe in the mid 60's, it was not until they took over Maserati in 1968 that it became feasible. Masarati hastily produced a 2.7 V6 engine, in its initial run, produced 170BHP in carburettor form and proved very reliable. In production from 1970 to 1975, the SM became famous for its sleek looks and impressive performance.
