The beginning of a recent burn. What burns do to large trees is always fascinating and photogenic. This burn was actually quite superficial, not intense enough to reach the canopy of the old growth so old large trees were not killed. This kind of burn is actually healthy for an old growth forest, clearing out underbrush and making room for new trees.
