Turn comparison Sat 24

Buckminster Fuller
made a drawing (below) titled FAST TURN COMPARISON.
He considered this “Important in multi-lane traffic” and his
illustration compares a 16ft standard car VS. 19ft Dymaxion.

The “note” on the right of the drawing reads;
NOTE IDENTICAL RADIUS OF TUBE
NOTE DYMAXION OCCUPIES 19•5%
LESSER PATH THAN STANDARD DES-
PITE ITS 22•4% GREATER LENGTH
DUE TO ITS CURVING SIDE AND THE-
FACT THAT IT PIVOTS NOT AT EXTREMI-
TIES AS IN STANDARD – BUT PIVOTS
NEARLY AMIDSHIPS.
The diagram above is from; The Dymaxion World of Buckminster Fuller
by Robert W. Marks, published by Southern Illinois University Press in 1960.
