The church on the far side of the water, Nantgwyllte church, is Victorian and was built to replace the original church that was lost when the valley was flooded in the late 1890s to create the reservoir. Some of the fittings, such as the oil lamps, are from the original church. The poet Percy Bysshe Shelley was one of the residents of the flooded village of Nantgwyllte.
