Varied Thrush Sharing the Sidewalk

Took a walk this afternoon in between showers and came across this bird, which I believe is a Varied Thrush. I was able to take several pictures of the bird and it just stood there. It sure was a beautiful bird!

After walking away, I began to think that maybe there is something wrong with the bird. From one angle it looked like a wing was hanging down somewhat. When I got home I made a few calls to see if I could find someone who knew birds and if help was possible. I got nowhere. I felt guilty about taking pictures but not finding help. But in the end I didn't know of anything that could be done. Hopefully, it just looked like the bird was in trouble.

Sure is a pretty little thing! V
I'm wondering if there's something wrong with its eye, or if it was blinking when you took this photo. Hopefully it was just being friendly and isn't injured.

Oh.. the original D1x, excellent shot of this what looks like stunned bird. If it's standing up I'd expect that it flew off. V

A lovely bird and capture of it, but I agree, something does look a bit off, at least with its eye. Hope it's OK. V.

Terrific shot of this colorful bird, Vern. Not one I've ever had the opportunity to see, though they are listed as being in our area at least part of the year. You either caught it on a blink, or it is resting standing there. Hopefully it recovered and flew off. And at least you did try. :)

It's a beautiful bird. Looks like it could be blind in that eye.

Sometimes, when I lived near Mount Batchlor, I would see birds escape the paws of the neibor's cat or bounce off our window and they would have a droopy wing, too. They would often be able to find a safe place to recover. Nice simple shot of a beautiful bird. I don't know what the term is for a shot that is true to how the subject truthfully looked, but that is one thing I like about this photo!

Something similar happened to me. I found a bird sitting on my driveway recently and it looked like it was injured. When I finally reached out my hand to the bird it flew away.

Just beautiful, Vern. Wonderful colors. The bird looks stunned, hope it's OK.

Aw, poor thing may have been a victim of a window collision. Nicely captured.
