I think the owner split!
Went for a hike on the trails at Apache Wash today and these
were hanging there when we parked. They were still there when we left.
I assume someone didn't like their new boots after a little walk.

Either that or a pack of coyotes is trying to send a very clear message to hikers. I like the way you've shot this almost like it's a pair of (admittedly scrawny) legs sticking up from someone who is embedded in the ground.
