I use Vice Versa for making back ups. I have been using it for quite a long time and I really like it. I went to the bank to get my hard drives out of the safe deposit box. When I got home, I found that one of them decided not to work. This is why I have multiple back ups. Anyway I went down to Fry's and bought another 2TB hard drive and proceeded to back up all my files onto it. I was stunned when I started the process. You can see in this screen grab that it is running at 51 MBps. With other USB 2.0 disks it suns at 10 or so. Unbelievable.

Well, I accidentally stopped the process then restarted it and it ran at 18 MBps. What the heck? Why did that happen. SO, as we all do with Microsoft products, I restarted Windows 7 and tried again. Sure enough it ran a lot faster. I have no idea how these operating systems work now days. I don't know if I have flaky hardware or software. In any case, I have come to a truce with the machine and I am content with the results.

Thanks Dave. Now I get it.

John, I e-mailed you a message that tries to explain
libraries. Basically, libraries are glorified shortcuts
but more powerful than shortcuts. Just remember, a
library is a logical folder, just as a shortcut is
a logical file.

I still don't understand libraries

It baffles me that rebooting a machine gets rid of certain problems (or in your case seems to create them). Why can't an operating system clean itself up? So far I am pleased with my Windows 7 machine, but it took me quite a while to get comfortable with Libraries.
