King Cakes make their appearance at the supermarket today...
The interval between Epiphany and Mardi Gras is known as “King Cake season”.
Epiphany marks the beginning of the Mardi Gras season. It is customary to bake king cakes during this time of the year.
These cakes may include a small trinket inside. The person who gets the piece of cake with the trinket receives various
privileges or obligations. For example, they may be requested to provide the next king cake.
For our large Hispanic community, King cake is known as Rosca de reyes.
Before children go to bed, they leave their shoes outside filled with hay or dried grass for the animals the Wise Men ride, along with a note.
