I'm painfully aware of the income inequality values that Don quoted; unfortunately it's getting worse, not better. You wouldn't think that places such as this (de facto shanty towns) in a first world country, much less the richest the world has ever known. I like the inclusion of buildings that represent industry and commerce as a backdrop.

Strong photojournalism.
"For the late 2000s, the United States had the 4th highest measure of income inequality out of the 34 OECD countries measured, after taxes and transfers had been taken into account." From the Wikipedia article on "Gini coefficient".

A sight that becomes more common all over the world. Globalisation and scrupless banks. Great document.

A solid image of a tough reality.

An excellent piece of photojournalism, Julie, and a sad sight to see. V.

A sad image but a nice capture of it.V.

Sad to see this. Hard to understand why there are so many empty buildings and yet people are living in the streets. Crazy world. V

So sad. I hope they have plenty of blankets and warm clothes. And, just look at all of those big, warm buildings in the background.

Strong documentary image. Must be really tough living in the open in the winter weather. "V"

This is to me a very sad sight! We send billions of dollars to countries that hate us and we allow our own to live like this!

at least they have some shelter...still a tough time of year to be homeless...well juxtaposed with the cityscape..

So exposed to the bitter winter wind...well done in B&W. V
