A favourite restaurant in Low, Quebec closes. The Pine View was a popular place to eat for many summer cottagers, folks passing thru to places further north and winter visitors engaged in a number of outdoor activities. The restaurant had a cozy atmosphere, good food, great pies and friendly service. The executive chef had worked overseas in a couple of resorts before opening the Pine View Restaurant in 2002. Chef Terrence would take time away from the busy kitchen to chat with customers including me on a number of occasion because he heard I was fond of a particular dish. It was that kind of place.
Low, an hour drive north of Ottawa was also known to host the occasional rare winter visitor, the Northern Hawk Owl. The bird is so named due to the nature of its flight characteristics resembling that of a hawk more than an owl. It seemed like the right setting with its scenic wintry landscape and tranquil surroundings to watch and photograph this northern owl. The Pine View was not far from where the owls were located and was a great place to get some good food and thaw out for a bit.
Unfortunately, like many restaurants today, the economic times have forced a lot of them to shutter their doors. If you take a peek thru the glass you can see not much has changed inside. Everything still looks to be in place, except for the people.
